WHY START A WORKSHOP
Having had a love of wood for as many years as I can remember and being involved with many aspects of the wood trade it was after chatting to the Bank Manager explaining that I would like to run my own workshop and a cheeky plea from me as to whether the bank would finance a venture, he said basically yes!
Luckily I had a friend with an old stable that was in a mess, not used for anything other than old boxes, tools, spiders and mice. She agreed to the workshop and we set about clearing, the skip was full in a matter of hours and the shell was exposed. Not a big space but available. We covered all the walls with plastic and then sheets of Sterling board. The floor was original cobbles and sloping so a false floor was made to cover it all and then T&G chipboard flooring put down. All the walls were painted and a false ceiling was then produced which acted as a small storage area.
With the bank financing us we were able to purchase some good quality woodworking machinery so we can produce almost anything in wood, a later purchase was a wood turning lathe which albeit not used everyday is so useful for those odd jobs that need a turned cover or ring or the like.
The workshop was opened in 2000, with friends and family attending, nothing fancy, all the friends that attended we have done work for since opening.
As you can see from the HOME page we are offering Skill Days on all aspects of woodwork, and allied trades. Painting, paper hanging etc
As we start 2009 the economic climate is a bit precarious and worrying, we have had jobs cancelled but as I write this another has come in so we will continue with help from our customers past and present, maybe you have a project just give us a call we will be pleased to quote you.
We can also work abroad if you have a property that need some work done.
